To shoot the footage as a group we decided on the two different places to film, and when we did the filming we did four takes. Four takes had to be done because the first time round we would probably not know the words and the next time we did the takes myself and Daniel would get into the momentum of the song and then perfectly lip sync. There were three different shots which is the dolly shot, long shot along with the master shot that just focused on the two singers. The singers were directed to actually sing the song aloud due to the fact that it would ensure our mouths will pronunciate the words more, also we had to dance which did not exactly go down to well as it was not performed. Plus to make the performance look realistic we had to have eye contact with each other since it is a love song as well as doing actions such as giving the heart, knocking on the door and giving a key. Lastly, when it came to editing the footage I used the markers to know when Elton's parts began and then Kiki's section had started. However, I found it slightly confusing therefore I ended up doing it by ear and also the layers did not completely work out for me, yet I still tried using it. When I did use the layers I had the clips of the backup singers above the shot of me walking, and my shot above Daniel walking which was then above the master shot. In order to lip sync the footage I did use dissolves three times to take these blank black spaces out and lead into the next shot smoothly, in addition I think I edited to the beat carefully.
Just above the video there are screenshots of what I did to create the end product of my lip sync video. The first picture involves all the clips that I could have decided from to use in the video but only the ones with the orange boxes next to them are a few of the ones I picked as they were the best takes. The next picture is more to do with an effect which is the dissolve to transition to the next shot without looking jolty.
The third picture is the timeline and beside the timeline there is a section that has tools, the tool I used to get the dissolve was the pen tool. The pen dotted two dots onto the yellow opacity line which got disorientated due to the line having moved downwards when the dissolve needed to happen. I think that the pen tool is good because when editing, the two dots are almost like a start and end point of where the dissolve should occur along with the other clip overlapping. Plus it helps to decide how long the dissolve should last for, and if there is a clip that may not be the best then it can sometimes remove it with another clip. Also it lasted a particular duration and it need to overlap another clip for it to dissolve with something otherwise it would not have worked. The final picture is my end outcome of what the video is like.
In conclusion, by using the techniques mentioned above the video ended up being decently successful, because the lip syncing all fitted together well enough. The only things that could have been improved during the filming stages was that we found a location quickly to film as well as finding a corridor that was long so that the whole one minute and thirty seconds of the individual singing parts could have been filmed. Plus the camera was shaky and a bit wonky to one side instead of being central, but that was because the floor was uneven. A further point is that the lighting was not too good in the corridor so that should be considered for the actual music video.
The fact that we were only allowed to film in school it was difficult to improve the locations for the individual parts, however the change that could have been made is that we adjusted the lighting if possible in the corridor or stayed in the classroom the whole time to keep the lighting consistent. In order to improve these issues for next time I will also ensure the dolly is not used as it was used once and it would have been easier held in the hand to follow the person. Furthermore, whilst editing I could have used more cuts to other shots towards the end because the master shot was mostly used throughout. Another point is that the markers could have been used one at a time possibly for each video that would have been in a layer, to prevent the messiness.
