AS1-Task Three:Understanding the Techniques of Music Videos;Editing to the Beat

Firstly, I edited this small music video together as it would have helped later in making my own version of another music video, because it gives me the skill of cutting to the beat and in general having special effects make a video unique. In my opinion I think that the video was fairly successful when I used the split screen and attempted to cut to the beat. On the one hand, to be able to use the special effects is good, however it could have been much more clearer as it seemed as if there was too much happening at once;plus the video ended abruptly. I was able to cut to the beat because I listened carefully to the soundtrack first, then with the marker I marked on the six clear beats. Also the reason these three techniques are used in music videos is due to the fact that it keeps the audiences attention as the beat drops the imagery will also change, so it means that the viewer is not losing interest out of boredom. Nevertheless, split screens are used in actual music videos due to the fact that it shows interaction between the shots almost like a story, which could make the person watching the video as if they are part of the journey in the video.

These two screenshots below shows the footages that I have selected and several that was available for me to chose from to edit my own video to the beat. The second image out of the two shows a five clips that i ended up using hence why it shows by the little orange box to the bottom right corner. As well as the finished video is the first image.

The third image shows the timeline of my edit and above six of the clips I have used these markers by pressing 'M' on the keyboard. I used the markers as it made it much more simple as I would know where the beat is along with when the beat stops.

The last two images shows my attempt of a split screen and the image next to the split screen is evidently the effects I added to the clips. I made the split screen by staggering the clips over one another, after adjusting them to a reasonable size to fit inside the frame. The special effects I used was the lightening bolt which I made thicker along with a blue colour, and on the same clip I added a paint bucket which was decreased to become less green in the background. I was able to thicken the lightening bolt by going to effects control which is on the left hand side.
